Okay you were the lone survivor of a cruise and you are now stranded on an island, but before you got off you were able to get a solar powered CD player. What CD would you want to be stranded with?
”We Walk By Faith” – New Life Community Choir featuring John P. Kee. It contains songs with appropriate messages for someone stranded on a deserted island.
For being the album I have been able to listen to over and over and over for more than a decade now, its nostalgic value to me, its length (is a 2 disc album ok?), and the breadth of style (from very soft to very heavy), not to mention the irony of the title in such a situation I would have to say Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins.
Mellon Collie is by far the Magnum Opus of the Pumpkin’s work. It contains 6 of their most famous singles including “Zero”, “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”, and “1979.” It won them a Grammy, its on the Rolling Stones Top 500 albums of all time, and went 9 times Platinum. If you haven’t heard it and you like Alternative Rock it’s a MUST LISTEN!
@Lionel: Yeah, I know….but Babyface trumps Mariah anyday in my book . That Unplugged album is one I could listen to over and over and never tire of its melody
LOL. Can’t help it. I’ve been listening to Stevie, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Bill Withers, Roberta Flack and those guys since I was 11. Was the only non-”Gospel” music I was able to listen to in the house when I was a kid. So it just kind of stuck with me.
I could just as easily have picked a Fred Hammond, Commisioned or Winans albums as well. BLD’s pick of “We Walk By Faith” is on the soundtrack to my childhood. Probably know every word of every song on that album.
Spirit of David is one of the great albums of all time, any genre of music in my book. Inner Court is a close second. I think Fred is one of the all-time greats in music in general. (The fact that he is from Detroit plays no part in my judgement whatsoever).

Just one???? That’s unfair…
…but I’d have to go with Babyface MTV Unplugged NYC

Nice choice BLD
@ Vetta, no Mariah? What???
Dan, never heard of Mellon Collie but have been acquantied with Smashing Pumpkins,
I am going with Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest. It is fun, jazzy, and my favorite album of all time.

Fred’s Spirit of David is my joint also. But there are at least 4 Fred albums if you got stranded you could be okay.

I’d take the CD that teaches survivor skills in extreme situations
LOL @ Gabriel! So practical
@Detroit: You are alright in my book! Stevie AND Fred?!?!?! Oh YES!
