Chas,

I just wished the "traditional" church would stop saying "toes I am more important than you because I am seen more often and touch more than the hand". There shouldn't be any bashing. I think we can engage in a dialogue. I do believe personally that the institutional structure inhibits maturity and rob the priest of their function, but that is a different argument altogether. However, we are all one bride, family and parts of one body and though we may disagree to accuse the other of not loving Jesus is a very harsh thing to say.

for me the strongest part of this piece is the depiction you present of the bride under the sub heading of "we do love the church". absolutely beautiful. for a few years i have been concerned about the amount of bashing the traditional church is getting from professed christians. there are inherent problems, to be sure, as with all earthly institutes, but there are so many she serves, who would be lost without her. you seem to be indicating that denominations are like the parts of the body, and wonder if it is necessary for the shoulder to understand or even examine the hip. it is the Head that uses the body parts for the purpose of the whole. Christ is the head. i think all of this is sage illustration. presented so clearly. yes church organizations can let us down, if we let them. but, as david defended saul because he was God's anointed one, so we with equal fervor, must love the institutional church because this is where the Holy spirit has been residing, and where so many have been brought to Christ, where so many would feel lost if they had not been found there. the answer is not to destroy the institutional Church, but to love, and live beside her, as another organ, as another stone knit up in God's picture. thanks hot chocolate.

Yes Sir Arthur!!!! It is a very clever tactic. I love the Deyoung and Driscoll and any other believer; however, they have redefined the church and then anyone who disagrees "hates the church". That is a very unfair position to take. I think they have the freedom to do church as they please but to define it in a static way and call others who disagree wrong, well... that is wrong.

Great thoughts Lionel. It is a clever tactic to redefine what the church is and then label anyone who dares question that as "church haters". It is precisely because we love the church that we seek to see her conformed the image of Christ instead of the image of man. Your comment about the Reformers is spot on, they did some great things but as the Anabaptists called them they were "halfway men", never seeing Reformation come to fruition and instead persecuting those who tried to see that vision come to light.
